JOHN DAY RIVER: steelhead
Weather and river conditions remain highly variable. Steelhead season closed on April 30 in most of the John Day Basin.
Bass fishing is still an option, but fishing will likely be slow until flows stabilize, which is usually around mid-May through early June coinciding with some of the best early summer months to target bass. Last updated 5/8/24.
