The Upper Madison will most likely be getting to its runoff stage this week. Fishing earlier in the week, the waters will still mostly be chalky green, throwing streamers, nymphing and dry flies are all in play here. As run off ramps up, its time to break out the heavy stuff. Pounding the banks with large nymphs, worms, and streamers will be your best bet. Don't be scared of the #BB splitshot!
Between the lakes a few weeks ago - Soupy! Upper Madison: *Not much has changed since last week* - The Upper Madison is fishing wonderfully. She's currently in a chalky green pre-runoff state (the water looks GREAT). Nymphing is, as always the most productive way to fish the Upper. Fish are still rising on midges, and the occasional BWO, although the cooler weather has slowed the surface action some.
Upper Madison: The Upper Madison is fishing wonderfully. She's currently in a chalky green pre-runoff state (the water looks GREAT). Nymphing is, as always the most productive way to fish the Upper, however we've seen plenty of noses this week, mainly sipping small midge clusters & BWO's on the overcast days.
